Welcome to the new building!
Remember all of those boxes tha were packed in the old buildig? Well here they are in my new room

The cabinets are glorious! I can't wait to fill them.

Starting to fill them!

 and changing my mind already!

I like the paint above the counter top. Then where do I put everything else?
Books will go all together IN ORDER! I can't wait to be organized! And look the boxes are dwindling :)
Oh my what do I do with all of the craft stuff? That will be my job tomorrow!
Check back for more pictures as I near the end of the boxes!

Everything is packed and ready to go to the new school. It was bittersweet leaving the last day. I have so many memories in this room and of the building and will miss it in many ways. But the new building is ready for us to start making new memories!

Time to start new. Come back tomorrow to see pictures of where all of these boxes ended up!

90 Days of School

We celebrated the 90th day of school by making a special hat.
We celebrate every 10th day of school by singing songs about the number zero.
Zero the Hero comes to visit every 10 days and sings songs with us.
The hat says We are 90 days smarter!
We sing a Zero the Hero song by Dr. Jean and 3 other songs.
We also sing our Heidisongs Zero song.
*Hat idea came from http://sc.jeffco.k12.co.us/education/staff/staff.php?sectiondetailid=93141

Donorschoose Project!

Hello again! I have written another Donorschoose project that I want to let everyone know about. Remember the wonderful four sided easel we got for our classroom. Well that was from Donorschoose. Wonderful people that don't even know us donated money so that we could get that easel. I have written another project for building logs (like Lincoln Logs). The children love to build and we just do not have enough of these types of blocks for them to build much of anything. Here is the crazy part...I accidently put the wrong title on it so it is called Reading in Kindergarten. But the project is still a great one. Please visit the site and send it to family and friends and hopefully we can get this one funded as well! Thanks for listening :)

Thank you for your help!

Wow! It has been a long time!

Well I am going to try to catch up this weekend and then post something a couple times a week.
Before the Christmas break we had our Gingerbread Day! It was a huge success and I thank everyone that came to  have fun with us.

When we came back from break we started right in on Winter and my favorite unit during the winter is The Mitten Unit. We read several versions of the Mitten and compare and contrast them. We also talk about the characters, setting and the ending of all the stories.

We make a pair of rhyming mittens and decorate them. The worksheet is from Mailbox Teacher Helper magazine.
Our favorite part of the unit is of course Mitten Milk! We put the ingredients into a plastic bag and then into a larger plastic bag with salt and ice and shake shake shake! With mittens on of course! This mixture turns into ice cream (sometimes they don't shake long enough and we get more of a milkshake that is why we call it mitten milk).
Our student teacher and Josh's mom help us put the ingredients into the bags.

Then we shake, shake, shake!!!
Yummy! Then we eat the ice cream. Everyone shook long enough to make ice cream!
I will post the graphs we made and the comparison chart next week.

Literacy Centers

Our Literacy Centers are going well! We always have a Reading center where children read books that relate to the unit we are working on, or read poems and charts around the room that we have worked on during instructional time.

We also have a Writing Center that we go to every day. Words to go along with the season are posted on the wall for the children to use.

The other two centers in the room are centered around skills we are working on like beginning sounds, rhyming, color words, syllables, or even making words.

The last center is working with me on reading skills at their instructional level. Some children are reading so we have a reading lesson while others are working on letters and sounds to begin reading. The children spend about 15 minutess at each center and then they rotate to the next center.

50th Day of School

We had such fun on the 50th day of school! After we finished our 50th day journal pages we made a snack of 50 items. We made sets of 10 using 5 different snacks.

The children enjoyed eating the snack when they were finished sorting into sets of 10. We practiced counting by 10 and made a necklace with 50 beads on it.

We can't wait until 100 day!
