We are off to a great start in Kindergarten. Here are some pictures from our afternoon Developmental Play Stations. The children love play dough and it really helps to strengthen our hands for handwriting.
Housekeeping helps the children develop social skills and pretending enhances language skills.
Legos, blocks and puzzles develop fine motor skills, social skills and language skills. Believe it or not, these things also help us learn beginning reading skills!
Check back in a few days for some neat pictures of some ocean activities we have done!

Madelyn brought sunfloweres to school! We examined them with magnifying glasses and used toothpicks to get the seeds out of the middle. We even found some bugs! It was a lot of fun.
We sat on the floor and felt the stem and cracked the stems. We then made a list of words to describe the sunflowers.
We took pictures in front of the sunflowers. Wow! they are really big!
We each made a sunflower out of paper by cutting the corners off of rectangles. They will be hanging up for conferences so take a look.

Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!
The children started out Friday morning making a pan to wear on their head just like Johnny Appleseed. Then we cut up apples to use in our applesauce.
We made a birthday card and made a diagram of the seasons of an apple tree as we ate the applesauce.
The children also got to eat a caramel apple cookie!

Sorting Fun
We started working with our Math Stations this week. The children had to sort objects by color, shape or size. They all did a fantastic job.
Check back later in the week to see our Patterning Math Stations!!

The First Week Of School!
We had a great first week of school. We learned about the classroom and what we will do to make every day the best it can be.
The children practiced going to literacy stations. In the bathtub the children enjoy reading and looking a books. At the playdough station the children make long snakes and form letters. At writing they make a picture and write some words to lable the picture.

These boys are working on matching uppercase letters to lower case letters with our Chester the Racoon cards.
I can't wait for next week!!

Getting Ready for 2014-15
Well today is July 28 and it is time to get the classroom ready for new Kindergarteners. Here are a couple pictures showing the room before I got started.
And here are some of when I finished today. I feel like I got a lot accomplished but there is still a lot more to do.
Check back in a few days to see more transformations!
