Where it all goes down Wednesday!

We have Welcome Night on Monday Night! Tuesday is a workday and the little darlings start on Wednesday.  We have a third of the children come on each day that first week of school so we only have about 6 children each day. The parents come with them for the first hour so that we can introduce all the "school stuff"  and answer any questions. The parents then leave and we show the small group around the room and school and run them through the daily routines. So I am excited to get started on Wednesday and I think my room is ready, take a look!
Book Buddy bags are hanging and ready to be filled. Each day the children take a book home to read and bring back the bag and book the next day to get a new one.
The reading center is ready for children to grab baskets and look at books. The bathtub is to read in or they can sit on the carpets to share a story. Off to the side is a taperecorder so they can listen to books on tape.
The sand table is filled with sand and seashells to start the year. And the art center in next to the sand table . Children paint at the easel everyday.
This is where many of my math manipulatives are housed. At the beginning of the year we sort and work on patterns. All the tubs are filled with fun little items to practice these skills.
And this is the group area. We sing songs, read stories, work with the calendar and have lots of learning fun in this area.
So I believe I am ready! I can't wait to meet the children at Welcome Night on Monday!

Teacher Talk Tuesday

My advice to First year teachers?

!. Stay positive and flexible. There will be times that things do not go as planned.
2. For those times always have songs to fill in. You can never have too many cds. Young children love to sing and move so put on a cd and make up some movements it will make everyone happy!
3. Try new things. Visit blogs and other websites. Also share with the teachers you work with!
4. Be a good listener, to the students, parents, and staff.
5. Most important...Have fun!!

Meet the Teacher Monday !

Hi my name is Lynne Busse and this is my 29th year of teaching. Teaching has always been my favorite thing to do since I was about 9 years old. I have taught Kindergarten, first, and second grade. I have taught Kindergarten for the last 9 years in my current building. We have an all day every day Kindergarten program which is very benificial to the students. Being a mother of 4 fantastic kids is another of my favorite things! I have a son, 22, who attends University of Dayton in Secondary Education. And I have 3 daughters. One daughter, 21, attends Purdue University in Biomolecular Engineering and is on the Crew team, another daughter, 18, is a senior and wants to attend University of Cincinatti in Graphic Design, and my last daughter is 16 and a sophomore in high school, she wants to become a music teacher.

My husband has always been very supportive of my career! He doesn't comment when I spend to much at Wal Mart or Target and it is all for my classroom. He helps me lug rubber maid tubs filled with teaching units to and from school. He fixes my play kitchen when the doors break and makes pointers and easels whenever I need them.

I love teaching, reading, teaching, lounging with my kids, teaching, blogging and more teaching!
I love getting my classroom ready in August to begin the school year and meeting the new children that will be in my class.
When the room goes from this to...

this in a matter of a couple of weeks I get excited.
I love using songs and movement to teach skills and motivate the students.
I love finding new ideas and new ways to teach the same skills each year.
I love Dr. Jean and Heidisongs!
All in all I guess I love teaching!

Welcome to Paradise

My daughter and her friend decorated my door with an ocean theme. They came up with the saying all on their own and yes that is me in the hammock. The name's of the children are written on sea gulls and seashells. I can't wait to start my ocean theme next week!

Getting Ready for School Day 1

Wow! I couldn't believe that I really have that much stuff! I walked in and didn't know where to start. I remembered the Book Study this summer and focused my energy and thought on one area of the room at a time. Let's see how that works!
I moved everything away from the front of the room and prepared my group area.
I started with my corner "office" by placing 2 storage cabinets next to each other and placing my computer and printer there. Then my big book easel and rocking chair were added.
I then put up the paper and added all of the calendar pieces. Then I sorted through cds, poetry and song books, teacher made interactive reading charts, teacher made books to go along with songs and poems and added them to this area. I put my pointers and other things I use during calendar next to my computer on the storage cabinets. Believe it or not this area came together easily by staying focused and concentrating only on this area!

Now for the next area of the room ???

I am back

It has been a crazy summer. I traveled everywhere with my daughter to basketball tournaments. She loves to play and had a great time meeting new people from all over the place!
My daughter is #55.
We had a lot of fun but I had no time to blog so I am going to catch up this weekend!
My 3 daughters also went on  a mission trip

So the summer is over and I have been looking at all of the wonderful ideas on everyone's blogs and realizing that I need to get busy.
I will finish the blogging on the book study book as I get my math stations ready for the year. We do not start school until August 24 so I have a little time yet.
